FUE
This is a Wikisite about FUE which is a modern hair transplantation technique. FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction and involves directly gently extracting the patient's hair follicles. In the past five years FUE has grown in popularity, offering the state-of-the art combinations of different graft sizes to make endless variations of placing the hair to create a natural look.
Benefits of FUE
● Natural results ● Yield is very high when done properly ● Less bleeding and low risk for patient ● Less visible scars - no strip excision ● Less recovery time ● No traumatic surgery ● No pain after procedure ● No scalpels ● No sutures and no stiches required ● Low transection rate ● Almost no limit in number of sessions ● Up to 8000 grafts may be harvested without significant changes to the donor area
History of FUE
The early days
The first successful hair transplants were carried out by Professor Dom Unger in Germany already in 1822. The technique made its first big step in Japan 1939 when a Japanese Dermatologist Okuda first described the punch technique. In 1943 a surgeon called Tamura had treatened 137 cases of non-androgenetic alopecia using techniques very similar to modern-day hair transplantation.
The Modern Era
The FUE method was first performed in Australia by Dr Ray Wood, before being popularized by Dr William Rassman and Robert Bernstein's 2002 publication Follicular Unit Extraction.
